In just a few years, our world has been turned on its side with the number of ways we have available to communicate with each other. The popularity of social media has sky-rocketed. It seems that if you are not somehow connecting with people via Twitter, Facebook, Skype, YouTube, or other avenues, you are way behind, and frankly, are not relevant in today’s society. Using technology to facilitate and encourage relating to each other is to be applauded.
However, there is no substitute for an engaging one-on-one conversation to capture all of the nuances of what the other person is communicating, how they are reacting to your comments, and confirming a common understanding.
The conversation my brother, Jeff, and I were having under this tree occurred about forty years ago. The memory of our discussion is long gone, but our continued conversations throughout the years are proof that whatever we were talking about, it had a positive influence on our relationship.
Leading others is about understanding and relating to people. And it is more. We will look at various aspects of leadership over the next couple of weeks, to lay the foundation of our journey together here at WayQuest.
